Modern Rattan Furniture Design
Rattan garden furniture has grown in popularity to the point it is now the number one garden and patio spend in the UK.
We have noticed a shift away from the typical straight lines and box shapes of rattan furniture found at your local garden centre, to a more discerning customer base which demands curves, pleasing lines and innovative garden furniture ideas.
If you look at our range of rattan furniture you will notice many complex shapes such as the Sailbed which has a rotating base and sails which moderate the level of sun light. Our rattan loungers are contemporary whilst ensuring a good function and form mix.
The reason so few vendors create true designer rattan furniture pieces is down to two factors. Complexity, and cost. It is technically challenging to create frames to support curvaceous weaving. It is also very difficult to weave. Only master weavers are skilled enough to perform the task. They are in low supply and they are paid a lot more than your typical unskilled weaver. It follows that the frames incorporate more commercial grade alloy, take longer to construct and consume more rattan fibre (we use German fibre).
Here at iola we are rattan furniture specialists. It is the only furniture we design, manufacture and sell. All of our woven furniture creations combine the highest quality raw materials from German, the U.K and the U.S. Our cushions use quick dry foam which reticulates any water through the cushion quickly, for a quick drying experience. Sunbrella is our standard fabric choice. You can’t beat 50 years of U.S innovation.
Our customers range from the general public to health club chains such as Virgin Active and 5 star Hotels such as the Sofitel Denarau Island Fiji.
Buyers should take note that only HDPE fibres are suitable for high U.V climates such as Australia and New Zealand, where our rattan furniture business originated. Commercial buyers should also note that only high quality fibres such as Rehau and Hularo and to a lesser extent Viro, have the research to support usage of 50,000 cycles or more. Hotels, cafes and busy restaurants require rattan furniture that will be durable for many years, at least 5 whilst being able to ensure 100’s cycle uses daily. |
